The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has raised the alarm over high rate of kidnapping in communities across the State.
Consequently, the House directed Chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, to collaborate with traditional rulers and security agencies to organize security summit to find lasting solutions to the menace.
The Speaker, Danladi Jatau, stated this while reading the House resolution when the deputy speaker, Muhammad Adamu Oyanki brought the issue on the floor of the house during yesterday’s plenary in Lafia, after deliberation.
He lauded the deputy speaker for moving the motion and members for their positive contributions during deliberation.
“The resolution of the House is to the effect that we commend His Excellency, Engr. A A Sule and security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity in the state.
“We urge the security agencies to be more committed and restrategize to tackle kidnapping in the state.
“The Kidnapping law passed by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly be strictly obeyed and anyone found wanting be dealt with accordingly,” he said
“All Local Government Chairmen should collaborate with traditional rulers and security agencies in their domain to summon security summit within two weeks to find lasting solutions to the issue of kidnapping in the state”
The Speaker also called on the people of the state to join hands with the security agents in tackling kidnapping and other criminal acts in the state.
He also urged the people of the state to help security agencies with useful information that will curtail crimes in the state.
Earlier, The Deputy Speaker of the House, Muhammad Oyanki said that the issue of forceful abduction and kidnapping has becoming alarming in his constituency and parts of the state.
” Mr Speaker and my Honourable colleagues, the issue of forceful abduction and kidnapping is a thing of concern in my constituency”
” Kidnapping has become a serious problem in my constituency, every day and night, people have been kidnapped”
” We must find solution to the incessant kidnapping in the state in order to save the lives of our people,” he said
” In my constituency, a Councillor and many people were kidnapped, Please let’s find solution to this issue” he said.
Contributing honourables: Luka Iliya Zhekaba, Suleiman Yakubu Azara, Jacob Ajegana, Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, Esson Mairiga, Musa Abubakar, Solomon Akwashiki, Onarigu Kana, and Muhammed Adamu Omadefu and Dr. Ibrahim Peter Akwe all urged security agencies in the syate to be more committed to their duties in protecting lives and property of citizens of the state.
They lamented that people of their various constituencies cannot longer sleep with their two eyes closed, urging security agencies to adopt modern technology to combat kidnapping and other crimes in the state.
