Bandits have abducted a mobile police (Mopol) officer near Kampani community in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, while the soldier accompanying him managed to escape.
New Telegraph gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the two security personnel were traveling from Zurak to Kampani where they were ambushed.
Sources privy to the development said the officer and soldier were part of a security team assigned to patrol areas affected by banditry, including Bangalala, Kampani, and Zurak.
According to Sahapi Sambo, a local youth leader, the attack took place while the two were en route to join their colleagues in Kampani.
The local community has been plagued by banditry, prompting regular patrols by security forces to safeguard residents.
As of now, the whereabouts of the abducted police officer remain unknown.
On Thursday, a joint operation involving soldiers, police officers, and vigilantes was launched to locate and rescue the kidnapped officer.
The Police Command and Army are yet to provide an official statement regarding the situation.
