Some suspected hoodlums on Tuesday at Amukoko vandalised a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) and robbed the passengers in the vehicle.
New Telegraph gathered that the incident happened at Amukoko when angry motorcycle riders from the mile 2 area were chasing the operatives of the Lagos State Police Taskforce who came to raid the motorcycle riders.
The motorcycle riders were said to have chased the task force team to the area but were joined by some hoodlums who invaded the bus and started robbing the passengers and later vandalised it.
A resident of the area who simply gave his name as Adebayo said the riders were coming from mile 2 after their bikes were seized but vandalised the bus and also robbed the passengers at the Amukoko area.
He said immediately the Divisional Police Officer of Orile got the information about the hoodlums he came out with his boys and chased them back to avoid destruction.
The DPO Orile and his team chased the hoodlums with tear gas canisters and they moved back and the hoodlums started pelting the police with stones and broken bottles.
He added that it was at that point he called the DPO Amukoko on the phone to ask for his whereabouts, the Amukoko DPO then said he was sending his boys
“A few minutes later, a police team from Amukoko arrived the the scene, it was then I and Orile DPO then left the Amukoko area and went to meet his boys to further secure his own territory from the hoodlums.
“The BRT bus was coming from mile 2 when he was attacked by the hoodlums in Amukoko and the passengers robbed. But police arrested some of the hoodlums in the process. The BRT driver shouting Orile didn’t know the difference between the Amukoko and Orile area, the incident didn’t happen in Orile, we are peace-loving people.
“As a leader in Orile, we are always on alert, we don’t want a repeat of Endsars protest in our area, and we always work with the police.
“Immediately my boys called me that some people were protesting we all came out to support the police and to also prevent the breakdown of law and order and also vandalise government property.”
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin didn’t pick up his calls.
