The Senator representing Benue South senatorial district and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro on Saturday condemned the abduction of 20 medical and dental students of the Universities of Jos and Maiduguri in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state.
Senator Moro in a statement made available Saturday Telegraph to appealed for the immediate release of the captives unhurt.
The students were travelling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when they were ambushed in the Otukpo area of the state and their whereabouts unknown since then.
In a statement by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, Senator Moro “said the abduction will have great psychological and mental effects on the victims who are studying to cater for the medical needs of people.
“He appealed to the abductors to release the students unhurt and without further delay to avert whatever effect the incident might have on them and their studies.
The Senator decried the rising kidnap and gunmen attack incidents in the country, especially in Benue State, and called on all the relevant government agencies to rise up to their responsibilities to forestall a reoccurrence of the incident.
He also called on security agencies to ensure the quick release of the abducted students to be reunited with their families.
