The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old commercial motorcyclist for allegedly robbing and raping a female passenger.
The police spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, disclosed the incident while parading the suspect alongside others at the state police headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday.
“On July 26, about 7:05 p.m., the complainant engaged the services of a commercial motorcyclist from the Obafemi Awolowo University Campus, Ile-Ife to Moro Town,” Opalola stated.
“However, instead of completing the journey, the suspect allegedly diverted to a bush near the RCC junction on Ilesa/Ibadan Expressway, where he robbed the victim of her valuables and raped her.”
According to Opalola, the suspect stole items worth over N480,000, including two smartphones, a Wi-Fi device, and N20,000 in cash, before cutting the victim’s pubic, armpit, and head hair, threatening to kill her if she reported the crime.
She added, “The victim was taken to the Police Hospital in Osogbo for treatment while the investigating team arrested the suspect.”
In addition to this case, Opalola mentioned the arrests of two other suspects: one for stealing a mini-bus in Lagos and bringing it to Osun for dismantling, and another, a member of the Black Axe confraternity, involved in robbery and cult violence in Osogbo.
Opalola urged the public to continue providing information to help the police combat crime in the state and assured all suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
