Educating the younger generation about their culture and tradition, particularly the way of worship, has a vital role to play in preserving and promoting the rich African heritage.
It is on the basis of this that the President, Association of African Tradition Religion Practitioners of Nigeria (AATREN), Chief Ifasegun Elgushi, has called on the Federal Government to integrate African traditional religion studies into the school curriculum.
Elegushi, speaking to journalists in Lagos during the Isese Day celebrations, emphasised the importance of educating children about their cultural heritage.
The Opemoluwa of Ikate land also urged President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly, to declare August 20 as a national holiday for traditional worshipers.
In addition, he also proposed the establishment of a National Commission for Traditional Religion, akin to the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) and the Christian Pilgrims Commission.
While praising the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his southwest counterparts for the declaration of August 20 as a public holiday to celebrate Isese worship, Elegushi urged the President Tinubu-Led Federal Government to urgently take steps to follow it up and declare the date as national Day.
