The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said the unanimous judgement of the justices of Court of Appeal panel that re-affirmed the nomination of Dr Asue Ighodalo as its candidate in the September 21 Edo State governorship election, has once again validated the credibility of its nomination process.
PDP in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated that the judgement “effectively shut the mouths of purveyors of lies and falsehood in the APC who are confused and frustrated by Ighodalo’s soaring popularity and acceptance by the people of Edo State including key APC members who are publicly declaring support for the PDP candidate.”
The party accused the anti-democratic forces within the All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying “to undermine and trample on the will of the people of Edo State as symbolised in the candidature of Dr. Asue Ighodalo.”
PDP noted that the spontaneous jubilation across Edo State at the news of the judgement was a testament of the overwhelming support of the majority of the people in the state, which it added, “Further signposts the forthcoming sweeping victory by Ighodalo whose personality and manifesto embody the collective vision and aspiration of the people of Edo State.”
The party advised the APC, its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, to read the handwriting on the wall and come to terms with the fact of the defeat that awaits them at the poll.
“The APC should know that the people of Edo State have made up their minds on Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the next governor of their state and cannot be swayed by the propaganda, lies, manipulations by the APC whose candidate is practically empty, purposeless, uninspiring and has nothing to offer to Edo State,” PDP added.
The Court of Appeal had held that the 378 ad hoc delegates seeking to be allowed to vote in the primary, lack jurisdiction to initiate the suit against the PDP.
