No fewer than six persons reportedly lost their lives in a road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday morning.
The accident which occurred at approximately 7:40 am near Verony, Ogere involved two men and four women, leaving three others injured.
According to the report, a Toyota Sienna minivan, with the registration number EPE 692 EL collided with a moving truck that had no visible registration number.
Confirming the accident, Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State said the Sienna, traveling at high speed, rammed into the truck from behind, resulting in the fatal crash.
The truck did not stop after the collision and fled the scene.
Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to Patmag Hospital in Ogere for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to the FOS Morgue in Ipara.
Akinwumi Fasakin, the Sector Commander of the Ogun Sector Command, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident, noting that it could have been avoided if proper caution had been exercised by the driver.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining full concentration while driving and adhering to all traffic regulations, particularly on highways.
Fasakin also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
