Three men have been sentenced to a combined total of over 70 years in prison for the murder of 25-year-old Hamzah Iqbal in Wembley.
Ali Al-Amiri, 21, Joshua Oladele, 20, and Micah Hines, 21, all residents of Brent, were handed life sentences for their roles in the attack.
Oladele was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 28 years, Hines received a life sentence with a minimum term of 25 years, and Al-Amiri was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 24 years.
The judge handed down the judgement on Wednesday, August 28 at the Snaresbrook Crown Court.
The trio was convicted on August 20 following a trial at the same court, where it was revealed that they had viciously attacked Hamzah Iqbal on September 24, 2023.
Iqbal was assaulted on Olympic Way in Wembley while out with friends.
The attackers, armed with knives and machetes and wearing masks, inflicted 23 knife wounds on Iqbal, one of which proved fatal.
Despite the swift response from the London Ambulance Service and the efforts of hospital staff, Iqbal could not be saved.
Detectives were able to identify and arrest the suspects through extensive CCTV footage.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, who led the investigation, described the attack as premeditated and senseless, driven purely by a desire for violence.
Rogers expressed hope that the significant prison sentences would bring some measure of solace to Iqbal’s grieving family.
He acknowledged that while nothing could undo their loss, the offenders would face considerable time behind bars for their actions.
