Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, has approved the payment of N70,000 minimum wage to civil servants in the State.
Nwifuru announced this on Saturday during the grand finale of the Ojiji Izhi New Yam Festival, held at Izhi Nnodo Cultural Center Amegu Abakaliki local Government Area.
He said that he has directed relevant government authorities, to draft out the modalities for the payment of the new minimum wage commencing in September 2024.
The governor frowned at the lackadaisical manner by which government projects awarded as contracts to prominent leaders of the state, were handled especially the housing estates at Izzo autonomous community in Ishielu Local Government Area.
He gave marching orders to the State Commissioner for Housing to ensure the painting of the houses immediately.
The State Chief Executive further called on residents of the State, not to hesitate to report government projects being delayed by contractors.
He urged the youths of Izhi Nnodo to embrace their culture stating that it would contribute immensely in shaping their characters in the future.
