The Senator representing Edo North senatorial district, Adams Oshiomole has criticized Betsy Obaseki for her comments about the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate’s marital status.
In his response to Betsy’s comment during a recent political rally ahead of the states gubernatorial election, Oshiomole claimed Obaseki and his wife has no child and haven’t made efforts to adopt one despite being I their sixties.
In his statement, Oshiomhole said, “I was shocked yesterday to see Mrs. Obaseki saying our candidate has no wife. Here is the woman who has no child; between her and Obaseki, they have no child; they are childless.”
This remark ignited a wave of reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing their disapproval of the personal nature of his response.
The backlash was swift, with numerous social media users and commentators criticizing Oshiomhole for bringing private matters like childlessness into the political discourse.
One user tweeted, “Dragging personal issues like childlessness into politics is a new low. We need our leaders to focus on real issues, not personal attacks.”
Another user expressed similar sentiments, stating that the senator’s remarks were “distasteful and unbecoming of a leader.”
While a few defended Oshiomhole, arguing that Betsy Obaseki’s initial comment about the APC candidate’s marital status was also inappropriate, majority criticized the senator for stooping to such a level.
