As part of activities to celebrate its 60th year anniversary, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan (UI), has inducted no fewer than 90 veterinary graduates.
The inductees took the oath and were inducted into the profession as part of the 60th anniversary celebration of the organisation with the theme; “Sixty years of Veterinary Education, the Goals, the Gains and the Gaps”, held in the faculty auditorium in conjunction with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN).
Dr. Adebanji Adeniyi, the Induction lecturer and awardee at the ceremony, stressed the importance of upholding professionalism and moral behaviour in the veterinary medical practice.
Professor Basil Ikede, a first faculty graduate in the 1967 set, congratulated the faculty on its achievement over the years in the training of veterinarians who have always contributed to research and education in Nigeria and worldwide.
While welcoming the inductees into the profession, Ikede encouraged them to be confident in administering their profession and bear the name ‘Doctor’ with pride and humility. Prof. Olufunke Ola-Davies, Dean of the Faculty, also urged the newly inductees to uphold the values of their profession by serving as exemplary ambassadors.
She explained that the faculty was operating under interim accreditation when she took over office and that the faculty obtained full accreditation from the National University Commission (NUC) in a matter of months after she assumed leadership.

Some of her notable achievements according to her included the establishment of the Alumni Association of the faculty. On staff promotion, she maintained that since she assumed office as the Dean, five Readers, six Senior Lecturers and fifteen Professors were promoted in the faculty.
