Former Nigerian international, Sam Sodje, has expressed confidence that the transfer crisis will not affect the performances of Super Eagles forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Osimhen got embroiled in an altercation with his Serie A side, Napoli over transfer before eventually making a loan move to Galatasaray while Lookman remains unhappy he was not allowed to realise his dream of joining PSG by Atalanta that refused to release him but Sodje believes that the players’ commitment to the national team and their professional mindset will see them maintain focus during the crucial qualifiers.
The former West Brom defender said the two players are mentally tough, suggesting that their experience and professionalism will help them rise above any dis tractions. – “Osimhen and Lookman are top professionals. They know what is at stake, not just for themselves but for the nation.
The transfer issues are part of football, and these players are well-equipped to handle them,” Sodje stated. “These are players who thrive under pressure. Victor has shown his quality time and again for Napoli and the national team.
He may be disappointed about how things panned out but he knows what to do when is representing the country. I cannot say he should be benched just because he hasn’t played competitive football for some time now because he is passionate about this country.
Ademola has been impressive with Atalanta. When they put on the green and white jersey, they will give their all. They are focused on helping Nigeria secure qualification for AFCON.”
