The Lagos State Police Command has denied having any ‘official’ knowledge of the kidnap and murder of Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
This is despite the military’s arrest of the prime suspect, Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-Level Philosophy student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), who is expected to be handed over to the police soon.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson in Lagos, “the case has not been reported to us.” However, reports indicate that Christianah was abducted in August along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos while going to the University of Lagos for her industrial training.
The kidnappers allegedly demanded a N3 million ransom from her family. The police’s lack of awareness about the case has raised concerns, sparking outrage on social media with the hashtag #JusticeForChristianah.
The military’s involvement in the case and the arrest of the suspect has also raised questions about the coordination between law enforcement agencies. Hundeyin said that he had contacted the military who has been handling the case from the onset.
