The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announcedd the recalling of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g), batch number 81832M 08, manufactured in Germany.
According to the NAFDAC, the product contains Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), a chemical banned in cosmetic products due to its potential to harm the reproductive system, liable of causing harm to unborn children, and also lead to skin sensitization.
TThe agency noted that this recall follows a similar ban placed by authorities in the EU due to non-compliance with Cosmetic Products Regulation, adding that the affected product has a barcode number of 8000700000005.
NAFDAC has also listed other Dove products recalled in various countries for the same reason, including Dove Derma Spa Goodness, Men Care+ Sensitive Shield, and various body lotions, shower gels, and deodorants.
NAFDAC has urged importers, distributors, and consumers to exercise caution as soaps are prohibited for importation in Nigeria and are ineligible for foreign exchange.
Members of the public in possession of the recalled products should discontinue their use and submit them to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Healthcare professionals and consumers are also encouraged to report adverse reactions to NAFDAC.
