Nigeria’s Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima has arrived in Benin City, Edo State capital, to participate in the grand finale of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign rally ahead of the Edo gubernatorial election slated for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Saturday Telegraph reports that he was warmly welcomed by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and prominent figures including Governors Godwin Obaseki, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, and Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi upon his arrival.
The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was also present, alongside several other political heavyweights, demonstrating the party’s robust support ahead of the elections.
The grand rally is a strategic move to solidify the party’s presence in Edo State amid rising political tensions as campaigns for the governorship race intensify.
The APC is hoping its candidate, Monday Okpebholo will win the election to clinch the governorship seat, currently held by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
