The Israeli army on Saturday confirmed the killing of Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah in a targeted strike on Beirut.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) made this announcement in a post on its verified X handle, noting that Nasrallah, who led the Iran-backed militant group for 32 years, was reportedly the target of Israeli airstrikes on Friday.
According to the post, Nasrallah “will no longer be able to terrorize the world.”
This marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has intensified since the start of hostilities on October 8, following Hamas’ attacks on southern Israel.
For much of the conflict, it was widely believed that Israel would refrain from targeting Hezbollah’s top leadership.
However, this approach has shifted in recent months, with several senior Hezbollah members being killed in Israeli strikes.
Hezbollah has yet to respond to Nasrallah’s reported death, but the assassination signals a major turning point in Israel’s military strategy against the group.
