In a bold military operation, Israel has launched airstrikes on key Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, specifically targeting infrastructure in the Ras Issa and Hodeidah regions.
The strikes, conducted by the Israeli Air Force (IAF), aimed to disrupt Iranian supply routes and military activities linked to the Houthis.
According to a statement issued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Sunday, the airstrikes were in retaliation for recent Houthi attacks on Israel.
The statement reads, “The IAF struck military targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime in Yemen in response to their recent attacks against Israel,” the statement read.
Among the targets hit were power plants and a key seaport in Hodeidah, which the IDF claimed were used by the Houthis to transfer Iranian weapons and military supplies into the region.
Additionally, the oil infrastructure was targeted as part of efforts to disrupt the Houthi’s economic resources.
The IDF emphasized that the Houthi group, which has been engaged in a prolonged conflict with the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, has increasingly operated under Iranian direction over the past year.
The Houthis, backed by Iranian funding and in coordination with Iraqi militias, have allegedly carried out operations intended to attack Israel, destabilize the region, and disrupt global maritime traffic.
“The IDF is determined to continue operating at any distance—near or far—against all threats to the citizens of the State of Israel,” the military’s statement concluded, underlining its commitment to preventing Iranian influence from further endangering Israeli security and regional stability.
This escalation marks a significant development in Israel’s broader strategy to counter Iran’s influence in the Middle East, particularly in areas like Yemen, where proxy groups like the Houthis are active.
While no reports of casualties have emerged yet, the airstrikes reflects the growing regional tension between Israel and Iranian-backed force.
The Houthi leadership has yet to officially respond to the strikes, and the impact on Iranian supply lines in Yemen remains under investigation.
However, the international community is closely monitoring the situation, particularly due to concerns over potential disruptions to global shipping routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
This marks a rare instance of direct Israeli military action in Yemen, underscoring the expanding scope of Israel’s defense posture against Iranian-backed militias beyond its immediate borders.
