Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, on Saturday afternoon, turned from hero to villain in Leicester’s 4-2 defeat against Arsenal in the English Premier League after scoring an own goal to gift the Gunners the lead in the stoppage time.
Ndidi scored the own goal in the 94th minute with a close-range Kai Havertz strike in the ninth minute of stoppage time denying the Foxes side who were within reach of an unlikely point at the Emirates after clawing back a two-goal deficit in the second half.
Two first-half goals from Gabriel Martinelli and returning Leandro Trossard had given the dominant Arsenal a deserved first-half lead, things however turned for worse for the Gunners after throwing away the lead with James Justin scoring a brace to claw their way back into the game.
Despite managing just only one touch in the Arsenal area before the break, Leicester reduced the arrears a little over a minute into the second half when Justin’s header from Facundo Buonanotte’s free-kick struck Havertz on its way in.
Justin doubled his personal tally spectacularly shortly after the hour mark, meeting Ndidi’s left-wing delivery with a swerving volley that beat David Raya via the inside of the post.
But Trossard’s late effort was deflected past the Danish goalkeeper by Ndidi before Havertz struck from close range to complete the scoring.
