Aliyu Gebi, the Special Adviser to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa on Wednesday lauded the Nigerian military’s renewed and coordinated efforts in combating insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Gebi in a recent interview on Arise TV emphasized that Nigeria is witnessing a level of coordination in security operations that has not been seen before, which has significantly weakened terrorist groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP).
According to him, Boko Haram has been decimated by 82% and ISWAP by 75%, attributing these successes to a harmonized approach in military operations under the leadership of the Defence Headquarters.
“This is the first time we’re having a very coordinated response to insecurity, where we have mission specifics,” Gebi noted, highlighting the military’s focus on key targets, including notorious figures like Turji.
He described the current military strategy as a “consolidation phase,” with operations being conducted in active theatres, especially in the Northwest region.
“Where before you had a smattering of efforts, now you have a consolidation, and it is because of that that we are recording the successes we are seeing,” he added.
Aside from military achievements, Gebi also pointed out the humanitarian efforts of the armed forces, particularly in assisting flood victims in Borno State.
He praised the military’s response capabilities and the recent procurement of modern equipment, including amphibious vehicles, which have enhanced their operational efficiency.
Gebi emphasized that it is crucial to maintain these gains and prevent any rollback in security advancements.
“What needs to happen is to ensure that this does not roll back. It should not go back to where it was, or we begin to slide back the scale,” he warned.
He also credited the National Security Adviser, describing him as the “Conductor” of the security architecture responsible for orchestrating these successes.
He concluded by applauding the entire military structure, including the Defence Headquarters, for their relentless efforts in stabilizing the security situation in Nigeria.
