Ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections in the state, the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has declared Friday, October 4, a work-free day.
New Telegraph reports that the holiday is to allow citizens to prepare for the elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 5.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, on Thursday, Alia urged all eligible voters to take advantage of the day to travel to their respective local government areas and participate in the election process.
Alia stressed the importance of active civic participation, encouraging all Benue citizens to exercise their franchise.
“Your vote is your voice,” the governor said.
He further urged everyone to seize this opportunity to shape the leadership in their local communities.
The governor also expressed confidence in a smooth and fair election.
He highlighted the commitment of electoral officials and security personnel to ensure transparency.
Alia also called on public and private sector employers to support the initiative by allowing their employees to fully participate in the elections.
Alia emphasized the need for peaceful conduct during the voting process, urging all citizens to prioritize unity and cooperation.
“Let us work together to ensure a successful and peaceful election,” he stated, reaffirming the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders in maintaining order and fairness.
