The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor-elect of Edo State.
Agbebaku, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), offered his good wishes during the resumption of plenary on Wednesday.
In his congratulatory message, Agbebaku emphasized that Okpebholo’s victory was not just for the All Progressives Congress (APC) but for the people of Edo State. He prayed that sycophants would not mislead the governor-elect, urging him to prioritize the interests of the people.
Agbebaku’s congratulatory message comes amidst controversy, as the PDP leadership in the state is yet to acknowledge Okpebholo’s victory. They allege that the election results were manipulated in favour of the governor-elect.
Notably, Okpebholo’s emergence as governor-elect has received recognition from prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji. Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, surpassing his closest opponent, Asue Ighodalo of the PDP.
Meanwhile, the Assembly on Wednesday announced the recall of the two remaining lawmakers on suspension, Donald Okogbe and Adeh Isibor after five months on suspension.
Recall that the House had on May 6 suspended Donald Okogbe (PDP-Akoko-Edo II), Adeh Isibor (APC-Esan North-East I)and Bright Iyamu( Orhiomwon South) over an alleged plot to impeach the speaker and other principal officers.
But Bright Iyamu was recalled in June as having been found remorseful according to the speaker, Blessing Agbebaku.
At the resumption of plenary in Benin, the Speaker said that the house had agreed that the two remaining lawmakers on suspension be recalled.
