The Rivers State Chater of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Saturday staged a protest in Port Harcourt amid the ongoing Local Government elections.
The protesters urged the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to respect a recent Federal High Court ruling , urging the commission to halt the election process.
The large crowd of demonstrators expressed their dissatisfaction with what they described as irregularities in the electoral process.
Carrying placards with messages like “Obey Court Order” and “No Justice, No Election,” they demanded that RSIEC stop the polls and follow the court’s order.
Saturday Telegraph recalls that a recent court ruling reportedly called for the suspension of the elections due to legal challenges.
Wike’s supporters have requested a postponement of the elections to ensure a fair and just process.
Despite the ruling, RSIEC continued with the elections, prompting protests from Wike’s camp.
The political crisis surrounding the local government elections in Rivers State continues to escalate as protesters demand that the electoral body comply with the court’s decision.
