Charles Idahosa, a former member of the People’s Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees (PDP BoT) and now an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain has attributed the PDP’s loss in the September 21st governorship election to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s inability to manage people.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Idahosa dismissed allegations of election rigging, describing the election as “very free and very fair.”
He expressed disappointment in some media outlets, which he believes are biased towards Obaseki and failed to criticize his administration’s shortcomings.
Idahosa noted that Obaseki’s history of abandoning those who supported him, including members of the APC who joined him in the PDP, ultimately led to his downfall. He cited instances where Obaseki deprived 14 elected lawmakers of being sworn in and cancelled the appointments of three judges cleared by the National Judicial Commission.
Regarding the PDP’s decision to challenge the election outcome in court, Idahosa views it as a normal part of the electoral process, reminding that Obaseki himself was taken to court twice in previous elections. He believes the PDP’s actions are merely a waste of resources.
Idahosa’s comments come after his resignation from the PDP and his decision to join the APC.
