The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged stakeholders to collaborate with the state government in ensuring that sickle cell patients live normal, fulfilling lives.
The first lady made this call at the grand finale of Project Empower a Warrior 3.0. on Saturday.
Over 250 individual living with Sickle Cell were present for the event organized by the Crimson Bow Sickle Cell Initiative.
The sickle cell patients were empowered with vocational skills and financial grants.
The event focused on equipping patients with entrepreneurial skills to help them overcome socio-economic challenges.
Represented by Toyin Suarau, the First Lady commended the non-profit’s efforts of the organization.
She highlighted the need for sustained support from all sectors, including government and civil society, to ensure better lives for sickle cell patients.
“The empowerment of sickle cell patients is essential to help them thrive and live fulfilling lives,” she said.
Also she emphasizing the importance of raising awareness and providing mental, medical, and economic support in line with the state’s developmental agenda, THEMES PLUS.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi while speaking at the event also echoed the need for enhanced support systems for sickle cell patients.
This he said will enable them to contribute meaningfully to society.
