The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has withdrawn the Super Eagles from Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya.
Super Eagle’s withdrawal follows a 12-hour ordeal at Al Abraq International Airport.
The Nigerian team, en route to Benghazi for the crucial match, was unexpectedly diverted to the small airport, typically reserved for hajj operations, instead of landing in Benghazi as planned.
NFF detailed the chaotic experience, explaining that the delegation was stranded at the airport without any assistance from the Libyan Football Federation.
With no transportation provided to their hotel, which is three hours away, the players were left frustrated and fatigued.
The NFF, in a statement on Monday, confirmed the Super Eagles’ decision to withdraw from the fixture.
It cited the dangerous diversion and lack of support as reason for the withdrawal.
The Federation is now arranging for the team to return to Nigeria, ending their AFCON qualification hopes for this match.
