President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a high-level Federal Government delegation to Jigawa State following the tragic tanker explosion that claimed over 100 people’s lives in Jigawa State.
The delegation led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, will assess the situation and extend support to the victims.
Also on the team are the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Alkali, Corps Marshal of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North West), Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai.
New Telegraph reports that they are set to visit the scene of the incident and the hospital where 50 victims are receiving treatment.
In addition, the president directed emergency aid, including medical supplies, food, and shelter.
Also, Tinubu expressed his deepest condolences to the affected families and the people of Jigawa.
He further reassured the nation that the Federal Government is committed to reviewing fuel transportation safety protocols to prevent future incidents.
The President also emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of night travel safety measures.
Tinubu urged the FRSC to enhance patrols and ensure compliance with safety standards.
He warned that those found responsible for breaches would be held accountable.
This tragic incident has prompted a renewed focus on road safety across Nigeria.
