Following the keenly contested competition, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday announced the winners of its 2nd EFCC National Essay Competition.
The competition which is aimed at promoting critical thinking and innovative solutions to combat cybercrimes was launched in August 2024.
The competition, according to the Anti-Graft agency attracted over 1,000 entries from young Nigerians across the country.
The participants showcased their ideas on using technology for social good and alternatives to cybercrime.
The essay competition was divided into two categories: the Tertiary Category, focusing on “Using Technology for Social Good: How Digital Skills Can Be Leveraged to Promote Transparency in Government.”
Likewise the Secondary Category, addressed “Exploring Alternatives to Cybercrimes for Sustainable Development.”
In the Secondary Category, Pearl Okereke emerged as the overall winner, while Covenant Adesegun and Emmanuel Victor secured the first and second runner-up spots, respectively.
In the Tertiary Category, Adeshola Adejumo claimed first place, followed by Favour Momoh in second and Godwin Ajala in third place.
The winners will be recognized at the upcoming National Cybercrime Summit 2024.
The summit is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
During the summit, the outstanding essays will be celebrated, with awards presented to highlight the students’ innovative approaches to leveraging digital skills for transparency and addressing cybercrime through sustainable development strategies.
This essay competition is part of the EFCC’s broader initiative to engage Nigerian youth in the fight against cybercrimes while promoting the responsible use of technology for societal progress.
The EFCC remains committed to collaborating with all stakeholders, particularly the youth, to tackle economic and financial crimes in the country.
