Former international, Loveday Omoruyi, has said the only way the Super Eagles can resuscitate their faltering World Cup hope is to give the interim coach of the team, Austin Eguavoen, a free hand to tinker the team in the remaining qualifying games.
Omoruyi said it is too late to start looking for a new coach as it will be like starting all over again thereby making the job more difficult than it is at the moment.
“Eguavoen is the Technical Director of the Federation by the vacancy in the Super Eagles, he’s qualified to come in,” he said.
“For me, if they want to keep him, it’s not a bad idea because he knows about the team, he knows about the players. This is not the time to go and bring a new coach because it will take him a longer time to understand the players and the terrain.
“So, if they are giving him the chance, then they should give him the power to invite and be in charge of that team. But I still believe there’s some foul play behind it.
Who comes to play for us? Who will play? I believe I don’t know, but that’s what my mind is telling me.” Meanwhile, the former Julius Berger star has said the national team deserves some special players like Kano Pillars’ Rabiu Ali.
Reacting to the invitation of the 44-year-old to the CHAN team, Omoruyi said Ali might be an old butt but still has the magic in him that is lacking in our team.
