The Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike on Thursday said anyone expecting to use blackmail and social media critics to get back out of the ongoing demand for the payment of ground rent, is making a mistake.
Wike who spoke during vehicles distribution ceremony to security agencies in Abuja noted that he never consider the sentiment being whipped up by people who have refused to obey the law and pay their ground rent.
The Minister vowed to revoke all lands whose owners have refused to pay, after the period stipulated by extant laws.
“Let me use this opportunity to tell Nigerians and residents of Abuja that we are not afraid of black men.”
Wike noted that the wrong thing may have been done over the years, but he would not toe that line as he has put his foot down to do the right thing, collecting all ground rents and funds from C of Os.
He said that was the revenue he is using to provide infrastructure. He explained that the FCT Administration gets only one percent of federal government statutory allocation and that it was not enough for the development of the FCT.
“Some of us have come to put our feet down. Let heaven fall. It is even better that heaven comes down now so I will not be fasting again to go to heaven.
“We will stop anybody who thinks that we can obtain government land without formal approval. We will not look at your face.
“If you like, you can be a civil rights activist. If you like, you can be a television talker. What is wrong is wrong.”
“No amount of blackmail can stop us. People take government property without approval, without documents and I have told people that there was a government yesterday, that the government did not take any step does not mean that another government will come today and will not take steps”
