Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has found himself in a per – plexing situation as interest from potential suitors dwindles months after he captured global attention with his impressive performances at the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Cote d’Ivoire.
Despite his heroics in the tournament, where he was instrumental in helping the Eagles reach the final of the 2023 AFCON, the expected surge in transfer interest has not materialized as anticipated.
Nwabali had been tipped for a big move following the tournament. His standout performances had sparked speculation about potential offers from top clubs across Europe and the Middle East.
However, months after the tournament, the anticipated wave of interest seems to have ebbed away, leaving the 26-yearold goalkeeper frustrated as he is set to stay at his South African club, Chippa United.
Confirming the situation, Chippa’s Assistant Manager, Thabo September, said Nwabali might remain at the club be – yond this summer.
The goalkeeper has already returned to Chippa United with no offers forthcoming at the moment. “We all want Stanley to go to the next level, forward to bigger things.
That’s why he plays so well, so that he can get a bigger move. From the management, the chairman, and us as coaches and players, we want that to happen, but at the moment, he’s here with us, and he’s a professional,” September told FARPost.
“He’s working for that moment, and when that moment happens. He’s a professional and is training well, and if that doesn’t happen, he’s looking forward to playing in the PSL for Chippa United, but as a coach, I don’t know if there’s anything on the table.”
