The Director of Public Health at the Edo State Ministry of Health,Stephenson Ojeifo has reported three suspected cases of Mpox in the state.
In an interview on Tuesday evening, Ojeifo confirmed that while none of the cases has been officially confirmed, the state is taking precautionary measures.
Two of the suspected cases are being monitored at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, while the third is at the Edo State University Teaching Hospital in Auchi.
“We have three suspected cases of Mpox; until the results from the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja are received, we cannot confirm any cases,” Ojeifo said.
He emphasized that the patients are not in critical condition but are isolated as part of enhanced surveillance. The ministry is also bolstering its monitoring efforts across healthcare centres, following guidance from the WHO and Africa CDC. Ojeifo urged residents to remain vigilant, as Mpox spreads through close contact with infected individuals or contaminated objects.
