An ex- Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, has died. He was aged 90.
The retired Justice of the Supreme Court, according to family sources, died on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. He was born on October 27, 1933, and retired from the Supreme Court in 2003 at the mandatory age of 70.
He was appointed Chairman of ICPC in 2005 by then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Announcing the demise of the renown jurist, the family in a statement said: “With gratitude to God for a life well lived”. They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of tributes and condolences, celebrating a life dedicated to service and the pursuit of justice.
“Rest in peace, Hon. Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola (JSC, rtd). Your legacy will live on”, the family said.
“Justice Ayoola was a highly respected jurist known for his brilliance, integrity, and commitment to justice.
“He served the nation with distinction, leaving an indelible mark on the judiciary. His contributions to the development of Nigerian Law and Jurisprudence will be deeply missed. The legal community and beyond will mourn the loss of this judicial icon”, the tribute on him read.
