No fewer than 10 residents have been abducted in Zamfara state.
Bandits have attacked the Moriki community in Zamfara State and are demanding a ransom of N50 million for the release of the abducted residents.
The Zamfara State Police spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that the Commissioner of Police had ordered immediate action to rescue the victims.
A local resident who shared that the community is in distress said, “The bandits claimed that their cows were killed by the Commander in the community.
“They attacked the community and went from house to house picking our people and gave today as the deadline for us to pay the N50 million,” he said.
The resident explained further that this is not the first time Moriki has been targeted, adding that the community had previously paid a ransom to access their farms.
“Not long ago, they collected N20 million from community members to allow the locals access their farms. The community is not secured at all,” he added.
The bandits have reportedly threatened further violence if their demands are not met by the deadline.
