The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) is battling the liquidation of balance of 10-month pension arrears of university pensioners.
While the uncleared pension arrears hang, PTAD said it had cleared 20-month pension arrears of polytechnics and colleges of education. Executive Secretary, PTAD, Dr Chioma Nnenna Ejikeme, provided the updates via her verified X handle as agitation for pension arrears overhang resurfaced amongst the pensioners under defined benefits arrangement managed by PTAD.
Responding to an inquiry by a follower, Ejikeme said: “The university sector has a balance of 10 months of pension arrears to be liquidated, polytechnics and colleges of education (20 months) have been paid.”
According to Ejikeme, “PTAD has finalized payments of the eight months accrued arrears for pension increment as approved by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with Circular Number SWC/S/04/S.542/II/449 Dated 30th April 2024 and taking effect from January 1, 2024”. “Arrears have been paid up to August 2024 for all pensioners who have confirmed their ‘Aliveness.’
The new monthly pension with the increment will be implemented in September. “Polytechnics and colleges of education (20-months arrears) have also been paid.
The university sector, however, has a balance of 10 months arrears to be liquidated in due course,” she said. In June, the pension agency announced clearance of 4,443 deceased pensioners’ next-of-kin for payment.
It said it had processed 4,443 files of next-of-kin of deceased pensioners, with complaints of non-payment of death benefits and gratuity, as of May 17, 2024. According to PTAD’s “expended Nok & Gratuity Project Progress Report”, about 842 NoKs have been found and verified as paid, and PTAD will communicate this development to the affected pensioners.
