A Nigerian-American, Kelechi Ndukwe has announced a significant milestone in his military career following his promotion from the rank of Commander to Navy Captain in the United States (US) Navy.
Ndukwe’s accomplishment was announced on Friday by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), expressing her congratulations to him.
In her message, Dabiri-Erewa lauded Ndukwe saying, “A hearty congratulations to Navy Captain Kelechi R. Ndukwe who has been promoted to the rank of Navy Captain from Commander, in the US Navy.
“He is the first Nigerian-American to command a US warship. #ProudlyNigerian.”
Victor Agunbiade, a US Army Officer, also celebrated Ndukwe’s promotion, stating the significance of his role in the Navy.
He shared, “Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the newest US Navy Captain, Kelechi Ndukwe.
“The first Nigerian to have a command of a US Navy Warship! Congratulations on your promotion, Captain! Well deserved!!!”
At the promotion ceremony, Ndukwe was recognized as a trailblazer, marking a historic moment not only for himself but also for the Nigerian community in the United States.
