The Kaduna State Police Command has taken into custody three suspects involved in an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card swap fraud.
The suspects, Umar Ya’u and Hussaini Sulaiman, both from Zoo Road, Kano, and Abdullahi Bukar from Tudun Wada, Kaduna, were apprehended during a coordinated operation on August 27, 2024.
According to the command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, the suspects were notorious for loitering around ATM machines, pretending to assist individuals unfamiliar with the machines.
They would then deceitfully swap the victims’ ATM cards, enabling them to make unauthorized withdrawals.
During the arrest, police recovered 54 ATM cards from various banks and a Point of Sale (POS) machine, which the suspects admitted to using to defraud multiple victims across Kano, Kaduna, and Zaria.
The Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, reassured the public of the command’s ongoing efforts to protect the community and urged people to be cautious of unsolicited assistance at ATMs.
He also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity at ATM points to the police promptly.
