The Katsina State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Nura Mohammed-Kurfi as its new State Chairman during the state congress held on Saturday in the State
Mohammed-Kurfi, alongside 30 other officials, was elected in an event overseen by a 12-member committee from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, led by Sa’idu Bello.
This state congress follows previous congresses held at the Ward and Local Government levels.
While announcing the election results, the Congress Committee Chairman declared Magaji Lawal as the party’s Vice-Chairman, while Sanusi Aliyu retained his position as the party’s Secretary.
Other significant positions filled include Muhammad Nuraddeen as Legal Adviser, Umar Tijjani as publicity Secretary, Haruna Aliyu as organizing secretary, Hussaina Ahmed as women leader, and Abubakar Yusuf as auditor.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman expressed his gratitude to party leaders, delegates, members, and stakeholders for their unwavering support.
He urged all members to remain united and work together for the party’s progress, stating, “I am deeply grateful for the trust and confidence you have placed in me. We must stay united and work collectively to ensure the success of our party.”
Mohammed-Kurfi pledged to adopt an open-door policy aimed at revitalizing the PDP in preparation for the 2027 elections.
He emphasized the importance of discipline within the party, calling on members to remain loyal to the party’s leadership.
“I promise to lead with transparency and inclusiveness, and I call on every member to stay committed and disciplined as we gear up for the challenges ahead,” he added.
In his remarks, Senator Lado, a prominent figure within the party, urged the people of Katsina to rally behind the PDP, describing it as the only party capable of alleviating the hardships currently facing the nation.
He called on aggrieved members to put aside their differences and work together for the party’s success. “Now is the time for unity.
“We must support our newly elected leaders and propel our party to greater heights. The PDP remains the only viable option to rescue our nation from its current predicaments,” Lado stated.
However, the congress was not without controversy. Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, who leads a faction within the party, previously voiced concerns that some members were denied the opportunity to purchase forms for the congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels.
