The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in the Akwa Ibom State local government elections, securing 30 chairmanship seats.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) managed to win the Local Government of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
According to AniediAbasi Ikoiwak, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, the election results were officially announced on Sunday.
Governor Umo Eno has wasted no time, announcing plans to swear in the newly elected chairmen on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Eno emphasized the importance of swift inauguration, stating that it would enable the local government areas to receive their allocations and work for the people’s benefit.
“The window we negotiated with the Federal Government was till October, and this is October.
“So we need to quickly swear in those chairmen,” he explained.
This development follows AKISIEC’s issuance of certificates of return to the elected chairmen on Sunday.
With the PDP’s overwhelming victory, it’s clear that the party maintains a strong hold on Akwa Ibom State’s politics.
