The Sokoto State Police Command on Thursday announced the apprehension of 22 unrepentant suspects in connection to various crimes across the state.
The suspects were arrested for indulging in various crimes which includes criminal conspiracy, mischief, theft and receiving of stolen properties.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Musa spoke during a press briefing on the recent achievement of the command in Sokoto.
This is in keeping with operation obligation to ensure the safety of lives and property of the general public in the state and a commendable display of dedication to public safety.
He said though crimes and criminal activities have relatively reduced in Sokoto state generally, the purpose of this briefing is to keep the media and the public informed of the significant achievements in crime prevention and control, prompt detection, investigation and successes being recorded from investigations of crimes and criminality in the State.
Musa further said one Engineer Sani Aliyu Manager of SAMAG Engineering sokoto, reported at Goronyo Police Station that aluminium conductor wires meant for the reconstruction project of Sokoto east electrification in Goronyo town had been vandalized and carted away.
Prompt Investigation led to the arrest of Murtala Abdullahi and a receiver Usman Muazu all of Goronyo LGA.
The suspects confessed that they conspired with Yakubu Bawa and Umar Aliyu (all at large) to vandalize and cart away Aluminum Conductor wires from electric poles in Goronyo town.
During the course of investigation, the stolen wires were Recovered at the residence of the receiver Usman Muazu in the same Goronyo LGA.
In another development, on 5th October 2024, a team of policemen attached to Achida police outstation in Wurno LGA while on stop and search intercepted one Bashar Ibrahim a Driver in Kumaji area of Goronyo LGA with a Golf 3 Wagon motor vehicle with registration number BWR 961 MG loaded with sacks containing aluminum conductor wires, one iron cutter and ropes.
The suspect confessed to have conspired with one Aminu, Faisal Hamza and the receiver Abu Yantukane (all at large) who specialize in vandalization of Electric wires along Achida Road.
Suspect will be arraigned in court for prosecution.In the same vein, Policemen attached to Achida Outstation in conjunction with vigilante while on patrol in Achida town, intercepted the one Sulaiman Ahmad and Shamsu Muhammad all of Lambar Rabah and Durbawa Areas in possession of copper wires suspected to have been stolen and the receiver one Nura Bello 25 years of Achida Town who is a mechanic.
The suspects confessed that they conspired with one Auwalu (at large) and vandalized a transformer at Dogaye Village in Wurno LGA.
Also, the operatives arrest One Abubakar Muhammad Gada, Operation Manager of Gagi Branch water board Sokoto, reported at Strike force office that 35 Meters of Armored cable wires at Gagi Branch water board had been vandalized and carted away.
Five suspects, namely,Ismail Shehu , Abba Hassan,Salisu Chiso a Laborer, Fahad Rabiu and Sani Chiso all of Gidan Igwai Area and Magachi village in Yabo LGA. All the suspects confessed to the offence.
Also, the following receivers were arrested One Scrap buyer Gaddafi Bello and Dauda Bello of Kwanni and Aliyu Jodi Area of Sokoto state.
Exhibits such as a naked Amour Cable wires and a Shovel were recovered from them. Investigation in progress.
While acting on actionable intelligence, Police officers from Sokoto police command Striking Force arrested one Nasiru Yahaya AKA Zuga and Yasir Shehu both of Unguwan Rogo Minannata area of Sokoto.
The suspects confessed to have on different occasions catered away 13 motorcycles such as Bajaj, Haojue Roba-Roba, Honda super cub within the Sokoto metropolis.
They. also confessed to have conspired with three others namely, Amiru Alhaji Kabiru, Ukashatu Bello both of Bello way and Alhaji Kabiru Alhaji Yaro of Hausare area Sokoto who specialize in selling stolen motorcycles.
The receivers of some the stolen motorcycles have also been arrested. Investigation is still ongoing.
The commissioner reiterate that the Command will intensify the hunt for the fleeing suspects until they are arrested and brought to justice.
He assure the media and general public that the Command is dedicated to providing a safe environment for the good people of sokoto to carry out their day to day businesses and other activities peacefully.
While calling on the members of the public to be very vigilant and assist the police by giving prompt information on any unusual activity around their environment, most especially electrical installations, in a bid to curb this new trend of vandalising electrical cables and Installation.
He also extend heartfelt appreciation to all the officers and men in the Command for their unwavering dedication, commitment, and diligence to duty.
He urge the personnel to keep up the good work and express the command profound appreciation to media correspondents for the support and valuable contribution to the success of the command in keeping the general public informed about the successes, achievements and progress in the fight against crimes and criminality within the state.
