Nollywood veteran actor, Kanayo O Kanayo has taken to his social media account to express his strong views on the responsibilities of men in relationships.
In a video posted on his account, Kanayo criticized the growing trend of men relying on women for financial support, emphasizing the need for men to be providers.
He termed the practice as “Useless and Dangerous.”
In his message, the actor shared his concerns about the changing dynamics in modern relationships.
“I woke up this morning and I was disturbed by a trend that I have found useless and dangerous.
“When a man depends on a woman to feed him, the usual thing, which is the most disturbing part, is that women want to defend their husbands so that whatever is happening inside doesn’t get to the outside.
“Sometimes it is detrimental to the progress of the man,” he said.
Kanayo stressed the importance of men fulfilling their traditional roles as providers for their families.
He argued that a man who cannot provide for his household has no right to engage in a romantic relationship.
“Every man has a responsibility to his family; a man who cannot take care of his family is worse.
“What I am saying is that a man who cannot feed his family has no need to use his private parts on a woman.”
The actor also directed advice to women, urging them to be cautious about whom they marry.
Kanayo encouraged them not to enable irresponsibility in men by covering up for their shortcomings.
“This is advice to women: know who you marry. I know all you place above is love, ‘I love him, I love him’ but provision is key.
“Even when he loses his job, and is always in the house and doesn’t struggle and hustle like other men.
“I understand the need to defend them but don’t make them irresponsible,” he said.
Kanayo’s candid remarks have sparked discussions online, with many agreeing with his views.
Also, his message resonates with traditional African values, where the man is expected to be the breadwinner.
According to him, the breadwinning role should not be compromised under any circumstance.
Kanayo, known for his roles in iconic Nollywood films continues to use his platform to address important societal topics.
