The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially delisted the Group D second-leg fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.
The match was initially scheduled to take place in Libya at 8 pm on Tuesday following the first-leg clash held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State where Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory with a last-minute goal.
However, the second-leg tie has been clouded by controversy after Super Eagles players and officials recounted a harrowing 14-hour ordeal at a Libyan airport.
The Super Eagles players were allegedly stranded without basic necessities such as food or water.
The Nigerian team ultimately decided to return home due to safety concerns.
However, this prompted the Confederation of African (CAF) Football to step in.
CAF has since launched an investigation into the incident after the Libya Football Federation (LFF) accused Nigeria of sabotage and threatened legal action.
The LFF maintained that Nigeria’s withdrawal was unfounded, alleging that Libyan team also endured worse conditions during their visit to Nigeria.
However, in a recent update, CAF announced the list of matches to be played on Tuesday via its official X handle.
CAF notably omitted the Libya-Nigeria fixture.
The absence of the game from the schedule has raised further questions about the resolution of the conflict and whether it will impact the standings in Group D of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
As the investigation continues, both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Libyan Football Federation have remained at odds.
Insanont There is definately a lot to find out about this subject. I like all the points you made
