A devastating petrol tanker explosion in Majiya, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State has claimed at least 90 lives and left 50 others injured.
The tragic incident occurred late on Tuesday, October 15 at approximately 11:30 p.m. near Khadija University.
According to the Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, Shi’isu Adam, the explosion happened when the tanker driver, travelling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, lost control of the vehicle.

Adam expressed deep concern over the preventable loss of life, noting that crowds often disregard police advice in such situations, which tragically contributed to the high death toll.
In the wake of the explosion, a mass burial for the victims was scheduled for Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m.
Also, the injured victims are receiving medical attention at Ringim General Hospital.
Authorities further appeal to the public to heed safety warnings to prevent future tragedies of this nature.
