Four cyber cafe opera- tors, Onuoha Ikechukwu, 40-years, Daniel Lawrence, 27 years, Odinaka Onyeforo, 37 years and Ndukwe Chukwu, 50 years, have been remanded at the facility of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Aba, by a Chief Magistrate’s Court 1, in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State.
The four accused commercial computer centre operators were accused of conspiracy, impersonation and forging of Power of Attorney which is the exclusive duty of a qualified lawyer and were arraigned before the court presided over by His Worship, Erinma Maduagwu in suit No. MAS/284c/2024, on three counts.
New Telegraph learnt that all the suspects have their business centres at No. 2F, 2J Pound Road Extension, Aba (a few meters away from the trial court) and have been in the illicit business for many years. Information available to New Telegraph revealed that the 1st defendant, Onuoha Ikechukwu, was caught with over 70 Power of Attorneys said to have been prepared by him, bearing different names of lawyers both living and dead; to perpetuate his fraudulent act.
It was gathered that the suspects who were usually patronised by lawyers to prepare one form of legal document or the other for them, took advantage of doing jobs for lawyers to steal some lawyers’ letterheads and subsequently use the same, in connivance with other syndicates at large, to prepare illegal documents for unsuspecting members of the public.
It was equally alleged that the suspects sometimes used names, seals and stamps of deceased lawyers to prepare legal documents and among other fraudulent acts which the prosecutor, Uzoamaka Emmanuel said was punishable.
