The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday said it has commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) in Ondo State.
New Telegraph reports that the move is in preparation for the Ondo State governorship election, scheduled for November 2024.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made this disclosure during a meeting with political party representatives at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on October 17.
With just 29 days to the governorship poll in Ondo, Yakubu emphasized the importance of the meeting as a crucial step in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
He also confirmed that the INEC had completed 10 out of 13 tasks outlined in the election timetable.
The INEC boss stated that only three activities are remaining, including the publication of the Notice of Poll, the final day of campaigns, and the election itself.
Yakubu reassured that the voter register was handed over to political parties two days prior in Akure.
INEC has ensured that all political parties have complied with the required uploading of polling and collation agents on its portal, with 24,148 agents now registered.
INEC began PVC collection from the last Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise on October 17 across Ondo State.
For five days, PVCs can be collected from any of the 203 wards.
However, from October 23 to 29, the collection process will shift to INEC’s local government offices. The addresses of 221 collection centres have been made available on INEC’s website to facilitate access.
Also, voters are encouraged to collect their PVCs between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.
