The Rivers State Government has officially approved a new minimum wage of ₦85000 for its civil servants.
This marks a significant step toward improving workers’ welfare in the state.
The State’s Head of Service, George Nwaeke who made the announcement on Friday revealed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara granted the approval during a private meeting with Labour leaders and senior government officials.
According to him, the new wage will take immediate effect, ensuring that civil servants in the state benefit from the increase without delay.
Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, Chukwu Emecheta, expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for meeting the expectations of Rivers State workers.
He also praised his dedication to improving their livelihoods.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor, acknowledged that the new minimum wage would greatly alleviate the financial challenges faced by workers, enhancing their quality of life.
It would be recalled that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also announced that the state is ready to pay N85,000 as minimum wage to workers with hopes of increament it to N100,000 by January 2025.
The wage approval is expected to further solidify Governor Fubara’s commitment to the well-being of the workforce in Rivers State.
