Victor Osimhen delivered a stellar performance, scoring twice as Galatasaray thrashed Kayserispor 5-1 in a Trendyol Süper Lig clash at the Kadir Has Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Making his first start since recovering from injury and narrowly missing out on the African Footballer of the Year award to compatriot Ademola Lookman, Osimhen quickly reminded fans of his brilliance.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the fourth minute, calmly converting a penalty after a Kayserispor defender was penalized for handball. However, the home side responded through Stephane Bahoken, who headed in Kartal Yilmaz’s pinpoint corner to level the match.
Galatasaray regained their advantage thanks to Osimhen’s playmaking skills. He collected a pass from Yunus Akgün and set up Dries Mertens, whose shot was parried by the goalkeeper. Barış Alper Yılmaz pounced on the rebound to slot the ball home.
Galatasaray extended their lead early in the second half when Akgün unleashed a sensational strike into the bottom left corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
Osimhen struck again in the 71st minute, showcasing his finesse with a delicate chip over the goalkeeper after receiving a well-timed pass from Akgün, securing his second goal of the match. He was substituted for Metehan Baltaci in the 86th minute, earning a rousing ovation from fans.
Yilmaz sealed the emphatic win in the 89th minute with a composed finish.
Osimhen brace takes his league tally to nine goals for Galatasaray, putting him just one behind the league’s top scorers, Krzysztof Piątek and Simon Banza.
