Jigawa govt bans rallies to celebrate election victory
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has described the governorship election result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as an outrageous rigging and robbery of people’s mandate.
The PDP state Chairman, Francis Orogu, made this known at a press briefing at Akwanga, yesterday.
He said: “Our agent in Nasarawa Council was offered N15 million to compromise the result, but he rejected it, and, yet, they still manipulated the result to suit them.
“We will do the needful to regain the people’s mandate.”
MEANWHILE, as part of measures to forestall breakdown of law and order, the Jigawa State government has announced a ban on use of motorcycles and other forms of rallies to celebrate the governor-elect of the state, Malam Umar Namadi.
In a statement, in Dutse, yesterday, the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Habibu Nuhu Kila, noted that Governor Badaru Abubakar is calling on people of the state to rather pray for the winner of the election to have a successful administration.
The statement added that the governor urged people to remain calm and disciplined and give Namadi all support, cooperation and assistance throughout his tenure in office.
