Three clerics were, yesterday, confirmed dead in an auto crash along Otun-Iro Ekiti road in Moba Local Council of Ekiti State. The clerics from Anglican Church, Ekiti-Oke Diocese were travelling to Iro-Ekiti from Ipere-Ekiti when their bus somersaulted and they died instantly.
Five others in the bus sustained injuries and were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti for treatment, while the remains of the deceased clergymen were deposited in the morgue.
The Guardian learnt that one of the deceased clergymen, Reverend Felix Okeowo, who was transferred from Saint Peters’ Anglican Church, Ipere Ekiti, was on his way to assume duty in his new station in Iro-Ekiti, when the incident occurred.
The other victims were Reverend Arije of Saint James’ Anglican Church, Eda Oniyo Ekiti and Reverend Omotoso of Saint Mary’s Anglican Church, Ewu Ekiti.
Spokesperson for Ekiti State Police Command, Mr. Abutu Sunday, who confirmed the incident said: “We got the information, our men from the traffic section were deployed to the axis.
“The body of the deceased were recovered and moved to hospital. We are monitoring the situation ad investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
