The Vice Chancellor (VC), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has approved the construction of a new multi-million naira modern building-complex for the institution’s Faculty of Law.
The VC, who announced the approval when a team from the Faculty-led by the Dean, Prof. Olufemi Abifarin, visited him to brief him on the successful accreditation of programmes and courses being run at the faculty, also used the occasion to appreciate the immense contribution of the immediate past Chairman of Body of Benchers in Nigeria, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), towards the successful take-off of the faculty, its accreditation and continuous growth.
Fasina took a particular note of Chief Olanipekun’s determination to assist the growth of the faculty, especially his generous acceptance to be a Visiting Law Professor to the university to teach students pro-bono.
The construction of the new faculty building, when completed, is expected to house the Office of the Dean, various departments, offices of the HODs and other related offices servicing the faculty.
The VC noted that a major unique feature of the new structure is the fact that it houses all the lecture-rooms to be used by students for all their courses, “so that they would not have to travel within the campus to attend all law-based courses, which will no doubt reduce stress among students and lecturers while promoting efficiency and improve performances”.
FUOYE has the record of being the only university out of the nine established by former President Goodluck Jonathan that has established law faculty and running law programmes.
According to the VC, “As part of efforts to ensure standard and produce lawyers capable of offering global best practices, the university has established one of the best law libraries in the Nigerian university system, stocked with current and standard law books and journals. The e-law library has 30 sets of computer, with subscriptions of legal podia and law pavilion. It has a functional moot court and law clinic, which won a grant of N500,000 in 2021 from NULEC. Network of law clinic in Nigeria.”
